The Desire Net
In some religious traditions desires are considered the root of all suffering. It is true in some way. The moment we get what we wanted there is another desire to be fulfilled. If our ideas and desires are not fullfilled, we suffer. Sometimes a little, sometimes a lot. It is a perpetual motion machine fueled by our thought/emotion perpetual motion machine. - And the world goes round and round and round.
The actions rising from TED AL (Thought- Emotion-Desire - Action => Life)—chain-reaction create our lives. Mere thoughts do not do it, nor mere emotions. Only desires that lead to action will change the courses of our lives. Basically we want to survive, be safe, learn through new experiences and truly experience and enjoy life.
The Desire Net helps you to find out what you truly desire. In the beginning it is good to have another person to help you with he process. If you have no one to turn to, take two chairs and take turns by changing chairs. This is how it goes:
- So…you want to xxx
- (the answer)
- When you get that (xxx) as much/well as you can ever imagine, what more valuable do you get at the same time?
- (the answer)
- Continue 3-4 until there is a moment where you cannot find anything more valuable to desire. The states of mind are usually full of peace, deep existence, joy, love and pure beingness.
- Redirecting the future: ”When you now, from this beautiful state of peace, think about your desire to get power, money, a new game….what do you think about it?
Sometimes the desire stays, sometimes it changes. However the situation, there will be more awareness in the taken action.
